چکیده

b t T a e t n fi b This paper demonstrates the necessity to consider lants as an essential and interactive component of iological control practices. Plants not only possess irect chemical and morphological defenses against erbivores but also benefit from indirect defenses rovided by parasitoids and predators, which use erbivores as hosts or prey. Plants play an active role n the interplay between entomophagous arthropods nd herbivores and actually mediate many of the nteractions, thereby influencing the intensity of proection received. Herein, we review how plant atributes influence natural enemy efficiency by providng shelter, mediating host/prey accessibility, providing ost/prey finding cues, influencing host/prey suitabilty, mediating host/prey availability, and providing upplemental food sources for natural enemies. In ight of this crucial role, we suggest ways of manipulatng morphological and chemical attributes of crop lants for a more sustainable and balanced control of nsect pests in agro-ecosystems. r 2000 Academic Press

Investigation Role of Vermicompost to Improve Quantitative and Qualitative Characteristics of Corn (Zea mays L.) Production

Overuse of different chemical fertilizers is one of the causes for the degradation of environment and soil. Biological fertilizers are the newest and most technically advanced way of supplying mineral nutrients to crops. Compared to chemical fertilizers, their supply nutrient for plant needs, minimizes leaching, and therefore improves fertilizer use efficiency. Vermicompost is an organic compou...

Changes in growth, chlorophyll content and grain yield of Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) in response to water stress, chemical and biological fertilizers and salicylic acid

Salicylic acid (SA) is a phyto-hormone that regulates physiological and biological processes in plants and can be used to improve plant growth under different environmental conditions, including water stress. Thus, a field experiment as split plot factorial based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications was conducted in 2014 to investigate the effects of fertilizer and salic...

Effect of postharvest oxalic acid treatment on ethylene production, quality parameters, and antioxidant potential of peach fruit during cold storage.

The effects of postharvest oxalic acid (OA) treatment on ethylene production, fruit quality, bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity of peach fruit, were examined. Fruits were treated with oxalic acid immediately after harvest and stored at 1° C and 90% relative humidity for 28 days. The oxalic acid treated peach fruit exhibited significantly lower levels of ethylene production, pH, total ...
